Try temporarily renaming the registry key from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Autodesk/3dsMax/10.0/MAX-1_407 to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Autodesk/3dsMax/10.0/MAX-1:409 and then running the installer. Hopefully this will work.
