Oh, one other quick comment - according to the code I got from
http://www.cs.unc.edu/Research/vrpn/index.html the VRPN protocol was assigned port 3883 by IANA in October 2003. Apparently 39684 was used before the IANA registration occurred, but after there was a conflict over VRPN's original port, 4500, with Microsoft. *shrug*
