Cal3d

Are there Cal3D exporter dll files for R3? I'm under duress, and need to export some avatars. My current dll, dli and dle for 3ds Max 8 no longer function, I'm assuming it's because they were only compatible with 2.53.
Thanks!

Are you saying that after installing R3 B1 you can no longer export Cal3D files from 3DMax 8? Or R3 doesn't properly import newly created avatars?

After installing R3, I get plugin errors in 3dStudio Max. The cal3d exporter dll readme says it's only compatible with vizard 2.53 and max 8. I need to start exporting cutom avatars very very soon, our tech rehearsal is this saturday. IS it fixable before then?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Evan, thanks for posting about this problem.
I can not help you technically and I'm sure one of the technical people with post about this shortly,
but it sounds to me like you are under pressure to get something done for a performance, and are using R3-beta for it's fullscreen functionality over the R2 LITE edition.
If this is correct, would it help if we issue you a time-restricted full license for R2, so you can do your performance without restrictions and are not suffering from the bugs that possibly still exist in R3 beta?

Or are you relyinig on some abilities of R3 with your performance setup which R2 did not have?

Exactly. We need the functionality of R3. If I have to for the sake of time I'll use our current license for 2.53, but I would much prefer to continue testing R3 nd utilizing its cool new features. Thanks for your help guys, I hope we can get this figured out.

I changed my Max 8 plugin.ini file and got it to recognize the Cal3d plugins. I've created a new avatar and exported the .CSF, .CMF, .CRF and .CAF. I wrote my .cfg file like the male.cfg, to be sure it would be compatible. The problem now is neither vizard 2.53 nor vizard 3.0 can see my avatar on import. I don't get an error when I import my .cfg file, my model just doesn't appear. I double click on the .cfg in the script files resources, and get nothing, and nothing appears on running the program. ???

Thanks for your continued help in this matter.

-Evan

I got the Cal3D exporter working with the following steps.

1. Downloaded the Cal3D Max 8 zip from Vizard downloads page.
2. Put the .dle and .dli files in the Max plugins folder.
3. Put the .dll in the Max root folder.

I made no changes to the plugin.ini file and this allowed me to use the exported avatars in Vizard 3.0 and 2.53.

The scale config in the male.cfg file is quite small. Perhaps that is why you cannot see the avatar.

Thanks for the response! I'm going to test that as soon as I get back to work on the Vizard computer. I'll keep you informed.

p.s. Our performance is over, and went really well. I think Vizard R3 is going to be great!

README cal3d file edit

Hey guys-

The README file that comes with the max 8 cal3d exporters file says to put all the download's contents into the max8 plugins folder. But as you mentioned a few posts above, the cal3d.dll should go in the main directory.

Thanks,
George Bush
