Rendering problem

Hi,
I have a program with a timer which constantly updates the environment. Upon certain exit conditions it turns all the objects invisible and calls the following code:

modeinfo.visible(viz.ON)
modeinfo.message("Experiment concluded.")
viz.waitkeypress()
onkeydown('s')
viz.quit()

However, it neither renders the objects turning invisible nor the message. Does the program just not refresh if I freeze it within a timer?
