Interpupillary distance

Hello,
I am using the vizcave module and present objects stereoscopically in a distance of 30 to 40 cm in front the user. In order to present the object in the correct distance, do I need to use the interpupillary distance of the user, when he looks into infinity (eyes parallel), or when he converges on near distances (then the interpupillary distance is much smaller)?
I am looking forward to your thoughts on this.
Rennschu

Typically the IPD is left at the default value (0.06 meters) for most stereo displays including projection systems. For the projections to look correct when using vizcave it's important to have accurate measurements for the wall corners relative to the tracking origin.

Hi Jeff,

since we are using Vizard for psychological experiments on depth and distance perception, we are measuring the IPD of all of our users and use the individual IPD to generate the virtual environment. However, at the last conference, some researchers were suggesting to use the IPD measured when the user converge at a distance of 30 cm since then the IPD is far smaller than when the user looks at infinity. What do you think, would this make the projection more correct?

Best regards,
Rennschu

Sorry this is not something I have an answer for. That's an interesting point though, let us know if that turns out to work better for you.
