saving the position

is there a way to get an avatar's position in the environment without actually having global variables etc. Are the xyz coordinates attached to the avatars themselves.

so I can do something similar to avatar.getx() or something like that.

Which avatars are you referring to?

For the cal3d avatars you would do the follwoing:

Code:
avatar = viz.add('male.cfg')
pos = avatar.get(viz.POSITION)
For the older avatars you would do the following:

Code:
import Avatar
avatar = Avatar.Person()
pos = avatar.coordinates()
