CAL3D and New Shader System

Will the new shader system using vizfx work with CAL3D models in this release? That is, can I create avatars in max using all the specific material types documented such as spec maps, normal maps, etc...?

Hi shivanangel,

I'd need to look further into what is supported, but I can confirm that Diffuse, Normal, Specular and Opacity maps work on CAL3D avatars. Some other slots may work as well. Be sure to grab the current version of the exporter if you haven't updated in a while.

I also recommend exporting CAL3D materials as XRF, so they can be easily edited in a text editor (e.g. Notepad) if changes are necessary. Since they are tiny files, they won't affect load time. Animations and meshes should definitely be exported as binary.

What I suspect might not work:
- Multiple UV channels. You may need to make sure all maps use the same UV channel. Use of multi-materials are still fine.
- Composite maps. Used for changing blending modes, setting up detail maps, and other advanced features.
- Cube map sets. Built from 6 individual textures, so might not work.
