Cal3D avatars

As excellent as this tutorial is, I can't seem to get my avatar to work. I'm exporting with 3DS max 2011 (attached is my attempt). I'm using the Dr X mesh from the 3dsmax2011 Biped Animation quickstart tutorial (here). If you run the vizard script, you'll see that it would appear that the weights were not assigned properly, vertices have weights for bones that shouldn't have anything to do with them. Is there a fully working cal3d avatar I can get a hold of to make sure I'm doing everything correctly? I've tried to go to the cal3d website for the miniviewer, but they only have a version compatible with older versions of the exporter, and since the site was last updated 6 years ago, I'm not hopeful that they'll add a new miniviewer any time soon.

The Vizard installer includes several sample Cal3D avatars.

I looked through the exported files (xml version), and the vertices there had weights entirely incorrect. I believe the problem was with the exporter. I suspect that the cal3d exporter can't handle "editable patch."
(I did ultimately find cally. I have an entirely unrelated problem, which I suppose warrants its own thread)
