CAL3d: Could not find plugin to read objects from file

Hi all,
I'm wondering if someone had a problem like this before.

. I exported a Cal3d Avatar with 3dsMax 2015.
. No export problems.
. When importing in Vizard: avatar = viz.add() the avatar appears in resources and when double clicking it displays the avatar in the graphics window.
. in graphics window there's something going with textures but they're all messed up.
. when running the script, I don't see an avatar but get this error message

Warning: Could not find plugin to read objects from file "# cal3d material data
Name body[0]
Type Standard
Map Diffuse 0 1 casual10_f_30.tga UVMAP_EXPLICIT 0
SelfIlluminationColorMode 0 0
SpecularLevel 1
".

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks!

Best, Jeroen

Make sure you follow all the steps in the Cal3D workflow documentation. Let us know if you still have issues after that.

Hi Jeff,
thanks for your fast reply!

I used the cal3d guide your send me. But this only made the avatar look better in the gui graphics window. The problem with not loading the avatar when running the script is still there.

I've attached a screenshot.

I'm using 3dsmax 2015, Vizard 4 and the Cal3d 2015 exporter downloaded from worldviz.com

Thank you for your help!

Best, Jeroen

Dear Jeff,
as far as I know I followed the cal3d export procedure correctly.

1. I tried to load the avatar into vizard 5 (was using 4 before).
When running the script, I'm not getting any errors but can't see the avatar at all.

2. When double clicking the avatar.cfg, the inspector tries to open but gives me an error, "Vizard inspector has stopped working".

Can someone please give me any pointers on what is going wrong here?

Thank you!

Best, Jeroen

Hi again,
I tried to export an avatart from the worldviz character pack.
Opened the max file, and exported with the Cal3d 2015 exporter.

I'm experiencing the same problems in Vizard 4.0 and get the same error message (read one post up) in Vizard 5.0.

I'm not sure what's going on. Is the Cal3d exporter not working properly?

Thanks!

Hi krimble,
I tried loading your avatar from the cal3dAvatar folder into Inspector, and found the following issues:
* Through disabling various lines in the CFG, I was able to determine there was something wrong with the mesh itself. Possibly exported with bones selected or something like that.
* "Scale" setting used in CFG, which is no longer necessary with avatars that are exported completely with the current exporter.
* The texture that was being loaded onto the mesh did not make sense for that avatar. (underwear texture loaded onto avatar wearing clothes)

Exporting "avatar.max" into Cal3D from Max 2015 on my end produced a usable cal3d avatar, so it looks like you may making a mistake when exporting.

Veleno and Jeff,
thank you very much for your help! I'll compare both avatars to sort out what was going wrong here.

Best, Jeroen
