File dialogues

I am currently working on an editor for facial morphs, and have go to the load/save part of things. So, I need a way to load and save files.

Has anyone tried to work out how to create a file dialogue? Or do I pretty much need to display available files in a drop list? Or is there some other good way to do it that doesn't resemble a file dialogue?
