Yes, this should be possible. Does the following work for you?

avatar = viz.add('vcc_male.cfg')
PORT_5DT_USB = 0 #Connect to first USB device
rightGlove = viz.add('5dt.dls')
import hand
rhand = hand.AvatarHandModel( avatar, sensor = rightGlove )
#lhand = hand.AvatarHandModel( avatar, sensor = sensor, left = True )
