Lightwave avatar question

I am new to Vizard so please bare with my novice questions. I looked through the forum discussion but did not immediately see any answers to my questions.

I work extensively with Lightwave to generate 3D content and would like to model, rig, and animate my avatars first for export to Vizard for placement in an interactive environment.

Has anyone on this forum done this successfully and if so, would you mind giving me tips on translating the data across? I am especially curious about exporting animated motion data from my Lightwave rigged skeleton either into Vizard or as a pre-animated character or apply the joint keyframes to a Vizard skeleton.

On this same note, is it possible to export the Vizard character bones to Lightwave so I could reference my model to them, and then bind/parent the Lightwave geometry to the Vizard skeleton/bones within Vizard?

Any guidance into this process would be appreciated.

Hi there,

Vizard, at this point, supports only Cal3d animation format (I hope I'm not mistaken). For static mesh, I'd recommend to use OSG format. If you want to utilise Lightwave fully for Vizard, then you need to find a Cal3d exporter and OSG exporter for Lightwave.

I had a look around the web for Lightwave OSG and Cal3d exporter and I couldn't find anyone who could confirm working versions of these two exporters for Lightwave.

I'm currently working animation for Vizard by using Blender. I've been hitting walls in broad-daylight. :D You can see my progress in one of the threads.

I wish you all the best!

Hey k_iwan,

Thanks for your reply. I know all about the wall hitting thing but my skull is thick enough it doesn't seem to stop me. I will do some Cal3d and OSG web fishing and talk to NewTek about what is out there as well.

Best,
jello

Vizard avatars are build in 3DMax CharacterStudio. If you can handle the MAX or the .BIP file, then we can send you a barebones file :)
