Feedback on Inspector

Hello again,

next up my comments on the Inspector R5. It sounds great that this tool has received so much attention, here are my experiences:
  1. Off to a bad start though.
    1. Installed R5 Beta
    2. Started Inspector
    3. Resized Window
    4. File > Open... Dialog, selected an OSGB file
    5. Clicked «Open» and Inspector crashed
After that, Inspector worked without such exceptions.
  2. Node editing: I recommend to enable the usual shortcuts for Cut (Ctrl-X) Copy (Ctrl-C) Paste Instance (Ctrl-V) Paste Copy (Ctrl-P / or similar) Delete (Del) and also add these actions to the Edit menu
  3. Node editing: I would appreciate to be able to select multiple nodes of a level, then use the Insert Above command
  4. Node editing: I would also like to be able to drag'N'drop nodes
  5. When combining two OSGB models of 330MB within inspector and saving them back as one, the new size is 2250MB which, at first glance, seems unreasonably large. And triples load time in Vizard as well. Any option for a user to influence the final model size?
  6. Due to my limited knowledge of the inner node structures of models, when adding a new node I have some difficulties with selecting the right node flavour for what I want to achieve. A short tutorial could help the occasional user.
Hope that is of interest,
Best Regards, Walter

Walter,

Thanks for the report! We'll look into issues 1) and 5), they sound like potential bugs. As for 2), 3), and 4), thanks for the suggestions; we'll definitely consider them. And finally for 6), we'll look into providing more documentation for Inspector and the scene graph in general.

Thanks,
Masaki
