Boundaries of objects have unattractive black pixels

I am using Xfrog tree models in Vizard (.3ds format). Once the objects are loaded into Vizard 3.0, there are ugly (unrealistic) black pixels at the boundaries of every leaf.

How can I change the color values of the pixels which are on the boundaries of the object so that they are some kind of an average of the pixels from the leaf and of what is in the background? Is this something that can be done with the alphaFunc()?

Hi Andy, this kind of artifact is usually a texture issue. It tends to happen when alpha is used on a cutout that has black as the background color. It can also happen in textues that use pre-multiplied alpha.

What format are the textures in?

I've attached a couple example images that should give you an idea about what's going on.
