Plugin Development with gcc ?
 
Hello Wizards,

Must I use Microsoft Visual C++ 2003 to compile my plugins ? Can I use Devcpp (gnu gcc compiler) instead ?

Hi,

Both Python and Vizard are compiled using Visual Studio 2003, which means they both link to the 2003 runtime library. You will probably be able to create a Python plugin without any problem, since the API interface is mostly in pure C. However, creating a Vizard plugin might not work. Vizard uses OpenSceneGraph, which relies heavily on the C++ Standard Template Library (STL). Mixing two different runtime libraries will probably result in application errors or crashes.

I did a quick search and found the following site:

It seems to suggest that you can link to the Visual Studio 2003 runtime library with gcc. I don't have any experience using DevCpp, but if this is possible then it might work.
